It’s 11:38. I’m still up. Why am I still up? My body is tired but my mind is going 100 mph!
Didn’t I just tell everyone to get lots of sleep and all the benefits of it?
Such is life. We know what we should be doing but that doesn’t mean we do it. This is all about our habits but that is another blog in the future; this blog is about sleep…or apparently a lack thereof.
So what are we doing taking naps then staying up late or waking up in the middle of the night with a mind full of energy willing our body out of bed (truly one of the most wonderful places in the world)? There is a name for this which is Segmented Sleep. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Segmented_sleep
The theory is that we used to be up for an hour each night where we would reflect, pray, or interpret dreams. The big reason this stopped was electricity. Electricity and lights allowed us to stay up later. Has this changed produced happier, healthier people? I’m not sure.
I try to eat what the human body is designed to eat. I’m also interested in sleeping the way we are supposed to sleep. Does this mean going to bed at 9:00 and getting up at 2:00 am for an hour? Maybe. I’m considering trying it to see if it produces better results. Now I need some tests so I can measure the impact before and after. Time for sleep. Perhaps I’ll get up in the middle of the night with some ideas.
